Keynote Speaker I
Prof. Minghua Chen, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China
(IEEE Fellow / ACM Distinguished Scientist)
Prof. Chen received the Eli Jury award from UC Berkeley in 2007 (presented to a graduate student or recent alumnus for outstanding achievement in the area of Systems, Communications, Control, or Signal Processing) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Young Researcher Award in 2013. He also received several best paper awards, including IEEE ICME Best Paper Award in 2009, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia Prize Paper Award in 2009, ACM Multimedia Best Paper Award in 2012, IEEE INFOCOM Best Poster Award in 2021, and ACM e-Energy Best Paper Award in 2023. He also co-authors several papers that are Best Paper Award Runner-up/Finalist/Candidate of flagship conferences including ACM MobiHoc in 2014 and ACM e-Energy in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. Prof. Chen serves as TPC Co-Chair, General Chair, and Steering Committee Chair of ACM e-Energy in 2016, 2017, and 2018 - 2021, respectively. He also serves as Associate Editor of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking in 2014 - 2018. He receives the ACM Recognition of Service Award in 2017 for the service contribution to the research community. He is currently a Senior Editor for IEEE Systems Journal (2021- present), an Area Editor of ACM SIGEnergy Energy Informatics Review (2021 - present), and an Executive Committee member of ACM SIGEnergy (2018 - present). He is an ACM Distinguished Member and an IEEE Fellow.

Prof. CHEUNG, Yiu-ming, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong, China

Yiu-ming Cheung is currently a Chair Professor (Artificial Intelligence) of the Department of Computer Science, Dean of Institute for Research and Continuing Education (IRACE), and Associate Director of Institute of Computational and Theoretical Studies in Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He received PhD degree from Department of Computer Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000, and then joined the Department of Computer Science at HKBU in 2001. He is an IEEE Fellow, AAAS Fellow, IET Fellow, AAIA Fellow, and British Computer Society (BCS) Fellow. He is the awardee of RGC Senior Research Fellow with receiving a fellowship grant of HK$7.8 million over a period of 60 months. Since 2019, he has been ranked the World’s Top 1% Most-cited Scientists in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing by Stanford University for five consecutive years. Furthermore, he has been elected as a Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, and named a Chair Professor of Changjiang Scholars Program by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China for the dedication and exceptional achievements in his academic career. In addition, he is serving as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence.
His research interests include machine learning and visual computing, as well as their applications in data science, pattern recognition, multi-objective optimization, and information security. He has published over 250 articles in the high-quality conferences and journals, including TPAMI, TNNLS, TIFS, TIP, TMM, TKDE, TCYB, CVPR, IJCAI, AAAI, and so on. His four co-authored papers have been selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers (i.e. listed in Top 1% globally in the corresponding discipline). Moreover, he has been granted one Chinese patent and two US patents. Subsequently, the underlying technique of his eye-gaze tracking patent has been successfully applied to develop the first mobile app for fatigue driving detection. It turns out that, selected from 1000 new inventions and products of 700+ competition teams from 40 countries, he was awarded two most prestigious prizes: (1) the Gold Medal with Distinction (i.e. the highest grade in Gold Medals) and (2) Swiss Automobile Club Prize, in the 45th International Exhibition of Invention, Geneva, Switzerland, on March 29-April 2, 2017, in recognition of his innovative work. Also, he was the Gold Award Winner of Hong Kong Innovative Invention Award in the Seventh Hong Kong Innovative Technologies Achievement Award 2017. In addition, he won the Gold Medal with Congratulations of Jury (i.e. the highest grade in Gold Medals) and the Award of Excellence from Romania, respectively, at the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2018 with his invention “Lip-password: Double Security System for Identity Authentication”. He is the recipient of 2023 APNNS Outstanding Achievement Award. Also, he was the recipient of: (1) Research Excellence Paper Award 2022-23 of Faculty of Science at HKBU, (2) The Best Paper Award (Second Prize) of Computer Academy of Guangdong, (3) Best Research Award of Department of Computer Science at HKBU in 2011 and 2021, respectively, (4) Best in Theoretical Paper Award in WI-IAT’2020, (5) Best Paper Awards in SEAL’2017, ISICA’2017, ICNC-FSKD’2014, and IEEE IWDVT’2005, respectively, (6) Best Student Paper Award in ISMIS’2018, (7) 2017 IETI Annual Scientific Award, and (8) 2017-2019 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was the Founding Chairman of IEEE (Hong Kong) Computational Intelligence Chapter and the Chair (2018-2022) of Technical Community on Intelligent Informatics (TCII) of IEEE Computer Society. He has served in various capacities (e.g., Organizing Committee Chair, Program Committee Chair, Program Committee Area Chair, and Financial Chair) at several top-tier international conferences, including IJCAI’2021, ICPR’2020, ICDM’2017 & 2018, WCCI’2016, WI-IAT’2012, ICDM’2006 & WI-IAT’2006, to name a few. He is an Associate Editor for several prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems (2021-2023), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (2014-2020), Pattern Recognition, Pattern Recognition Letters, Knowledge and Information Systems (KAIS), and Neurocomputing, as well as the Guest Editor in several international journals. Currently, he is an Engineering Panel member of Research Grants Council, Hong Kong, and a member of assessment panel of Enterprise Support Scheme (ESS) under the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF). Also, he is a member of Fellow Evaluation Committee of IEEE Computer Society and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, respectively.
Keynote Speaker III
Assoc. Prof. Maxim Bakaev, Novosibirsk State Technical University, Russia
Maxim Bakaev obtained his Ph.D. degree in Software Engineering in 2012. He is currently an Associate Professor and the Department Head of the Data Collection and Processing Systems department of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU), Russia. Previously, he received his Masters Degree in Digital Design from Kyungsung University, South Korea. His research interests include Human–Computer Interaction, Machine Learning, Data Quality, Web User Interfaces, User Behavior Models, etc. He organizes the workshop on Universal Augmented Interaction (UNAI) at the ISMAR (A*) conference. He has served as a committee member for several international conferences, particularly as PC Co-Chair for ICMSC 2018 and ICWE 2019. He also served as a reviewer for several international conferences and journals, including CHI, International Journal of Human–Computer Studies, Applied Ontology, Symmetry, etc. In 2016, he received Novosibirsk City Hall award in science and innovations to a "Best young researcher in higher education institutions". Under his supervision, more than 30 masters and bachelor's students graduated.
Keynote Speaker IV
Assoc. Prof. Shankai Yan, Hainan University, China
Shankai received his Ph.D. degree in Department of Computer Science at City University of Hong Kong (4th in QS World University Ranking aged under 50 and 5th in Times University Ranking aged under 50) under the supervision of Dr. WONG Ka-Chun. After that, he was awarded the fellowship of NIH and worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Zhiyong Lu’s BioNLP Lab at NCBI/NLM/NIH. He is now an associate professor in School of Computer Science and Technology at Hainan University. He has published papers with interesting topics on top conference and journals (e.g. ACL(BioNLP), AMIA, Bioinformatics, FGCS, JBI and JBHI), demonstrating his solid research skills. His research is mainly about applied machine learning in biomedical and clinical fields. His goal is to facilitate knowledge discovery and decision making in healthcare research communities using AI technology. Shankai has served as the co-chair at ISMSI 2024, ISCMI 2024 and the session chair at IEEE UIC 2022, IEEE ICPADS 2023. He has also been the program committee member of CACML, BIBM, ICCBB, ICONIP, ACL BioNLP Workshop, etc. He has served as the peer reviewer for many conferences (e.g. ACL, BIGCOM, ICONIP, BIBM, ICHI, DMBD, ISMSI, etc.) and journals (e.g. BIB, Bioinformatics, PlosCB, JAMIA, Database, JBI, CSBJ, IEEE TCBB, CAIS, TCSS, ASOC, FGCS, NCAA, etc.). Before the Ph.D. study, Shankai obtained his BEng and MEng degrees in School of Software Engineering at South China University of Technology under the supervision of Prof. Zhang Pingjian. He has also studied at King’s College London as a visiting student in Dr. Kathleen Steinhöfel’s Lab, cooperating with Dr. Mariam Molokhia and Dr. Paul Bates at Francis Crick Institute.
